Mint Dental, we know how painful, inconvenient, and scary a serious dental emergency can be. You need help right away, and we’re here to give you the assistance you need in Edina and Shakopee. Dr. Forest and Dr. Schulhof offer same-day dentistry at both of our locations. If you need emergency care, please contact us right away to schedule an appointment.
Same-Day Care For All Patients
We will always do our best to see you as soon as possible. Immediate care is crucial because it helps you avoid further complications, relieves your pain and discomfort, and ensures the best possible outcome for your dental injury, toothache, or other dental emergency.
If you need emergency dental care, please contact us at (952) 831-1332 (Edina) or (952) 445-3349 (Shakopee). Inform us about your situation and when you can come in, and we’ll treat you as soon as we can.
What Should I Bring With Me To My Appointment?
If you have knocked out one of your teeth, recover it and put it in a container of cold milk or back into the socket. You need to keep it moist, and see the team at Mint Dental within 1-2 hours at the most to have it replaced.
If you have a pulled-out filling, crown, or another piece of dental work that’s been dislodged, you should bring it in with you in a plastic baggie. You should do the same thing if you have a broken tooth and can recover any of the chips of your tooth after your accident.
Other than that, you don’t need to bring in anything special. However, you may want to bring a friend or family member with you to your appointment. Even if you don’t require sedation, you may not be able to drive yourself to or from your appointment in Edina or Shakopee if you’re in a lot of pain.
What To Expect From Emergency Dentistry
To schedule an appointment, you just have to call Mint Dental, and we’ll let you know when our next available same-day appointment is. Then, just come into our office as soon as you can to see Dr. Forest or Dr. Schulhof.
Once you arrive at our office, we’ll take you back to the operatory ASAP. Dr. Forest or Dr. Schulhof will talk to you about your emergency or accident to learn about the details, what happened, and the pain and discomfort you’re experiencing.
Then, your dentist will examine your mouth closely to determine the best treatment to resolve your issue and restore your tooth. If you have a broken tooth, for example, Dr. Forest or Dr. Schulhof may recommend a root canal to remove any bacteria from the inside of your tooth, and the placement of a dental crown to repair and restore the tooth.
Once the proper procedures are determined, you will be treated right away. Depending on the procedure and your level of pain, you may be numbed or sedated for your comfort during the treatment process.
Brush your teeth two to three times each day with a soft-bristled toothbrush—you can even upgrade to an electric toothbrush. Be sure to use fluoride toothpaste to remove any food particles and plaque from the tooth and gum surfaces. Don’t forget about your tongue! Cleaning your tongue will remove any extra plaque-causing particles and help keep your breath fresh.
Step 1. Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to your gum.
Step 2. Brush gently in a circular motion.
Step 3. Brush all surfaces of each tooth, including the outer, inner, and chewing surfaces.
Step 4. Don’t forget about the backsides of your teeth. Use the tip of your brush for the inner surface of your front teeth.
Decay-causing bacteria and plaque can linger between your teeth where the toothbrush bristles cannot reach. You should clean between your teeth at least once per day, as well as use mouthwash to help remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth and under your gum line.
Step 1. Wind about 20 inches of floss around your each of your middle fingers.
Step 2. Use your thumbs and forefingers to guide about one inch of floss between your teeth.
Step 3. Gently saw the floss between your teeth. Then curve the floss into a C-shape against one tooth and gently slide it beneath your gums.
Step 4. Slide the floss up and down. Repeat for each tooth.
